Timing depends on filing history

Returning filers with prior-period data see dramatically faster results — BluePrint leverages your filing history to accelerate tagging and reduce review effort. First-time filers start from scratch, with initial preparation taking up to 30 minutes for a full 10-K while BluePrint builds your filing profile. Subsequent filings are significantly faster.

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting started

What file formats does BluePrint accept?
BluePrint accepts Word DOCX files. Upload your filing document and BluePrint converts it to EDGAR-conforming HTML, preserving tables, footnotes, exhibits, and formatting.
How long does it take?
It depends on your filing history. Returning filers with prior-period data see dramatically faster results — quarterly roll-forwards complete in seconds. First-time filers start from scratch, with initial preparation taking up to 30 minutes for a full 10-K while BluePrint builds your filing profile. Subsequent filings are significantly faster.
Do I need to install anything?
No. BluePrint is a web application — you access it through your browser. There is nothing to install, configure, or maintain on your end.

Document conversion

How does the DOCX-to-HTML conversion work?
Upload your Word document and BluePrint produces SEC-compliant HTML that meets EDGAR formatting requirements. Tables, footnotes, headers, exhibits, and cross-references are preserved in the output.
Are my tables and footnotes preserved?
Yes. BluePrint preserves table structure including merged cells, nested tables, and alignment. Footnotes and endnotes are converted with proper anchoring and numbering.

Tagging & accuracy

How does AI tagging work?
BluePrint uses AI to assign iXBRL taxonomy concepts to each taggable element in your filing. The system draws on the US GAAP and SEC taxonomies, your prior filing history, and industry context to select the most appropriate concept for each value and disclosure.
What happens when the system is uncertain about a tag?
Elements where the AI has lower confidence are flagged for human review. You can review, approve, or correct any tag before filing. The system learns from your corrections to improve accuracy on future filings.
Can I review and correct tags before filing?
Yes. BluePrint provides a tag review interface where you can inspect every assigned concept, see alternative suggestions, and make corrections. No tags are submitted to EDGAR without your approval.

Validation

What do the six validation layers check?
The six layers are: taxonomy compliance (correct elements and attributes), calculation consistency (computed vs. reported values), dimensional analysis (axis-member relationships), extension quality (unnecessary custom elements), prior-period comparison (drift from previous filings), and SEC comment risk scoring (patterns that historically draw staff comments).
How is this different from Arelle?
Arelle performs XBRL technical validation — checking that your filing is well-formed XML. BluePrint includes Arelle-equivalent validation plus five additional layers that catch semantic issues Arelle cannot: calculation inconsistencies, dimensional violations, extension quality problems, prior-period drift, and SEC comment risk patterns.
What is comment risk scoring?
BluePrint analyzes your tagged filing against historical patterns of SEC staff comment letters. Elements and disclosures that match patterns frequently questioned by the SEC are flagged with a risk score, giving you the opportunity to strengthen your disclosure before filing.

Version control & proofs

How does version control work?
Every revision of your filing is tracked with full version history. You can view, compare, or restore any prior version at any time during the filing process.
What are the redline comparisons?
BluePrint produces Litera-grade redline output comparing any two versions of your filing. This is the same quality standard used by law firms and financial printers — showing insertions, deletions, and moved text with professional formatting suitable for board review or counsel sign-off.
How do PDF proofs work?
BluePrint generates bookmarked PDF proofs of your filing at any point in the process. Bookmarks provide navigable section-level access for reviewers. These PDFs are designed for board packages, audit committee review, and counsel approval workflows.

Filing

Can I file directly to EDGAR from BluePrint?
Yes. The filing hub lets you submit your completed filing directly to EDGAR, track acceptance status, and manage amendments — without retaining a filing agent for routine submissions.
Do I still need a filing agent?
For routine 10-K and 10-Q filings, BluePrint can replace the filing agent workflow entirely. For complex transactions — IPOs, proxy statements, or specialized filings — a filing agent may still be appropriate. BluePrint handles the document production and XBRL tagging regardless of who submits to EDGAR.
What forms does the filing hub support?
The filing hub supports 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K filings, as well as their amendment forms (10-K/A, 10-Q/A, 8-K/A). Support for additional form types including 20-F, S-1, and Section 16 forms is available or in development.

Pricing & plans

How much does BluePrint cost?
